2018 MEMBER CHOICE DONATIONS: RECIPIENTS Due to the Tubbs Fire and unforeseen expenses due to the loss of our warehouse and equipment, the SRCC participated in a scaled-down version of the donation program for 2018. The club made a $1000 donation to each of these organizations: Earle Baum Center's Tandem Bike Program The donation will go to the "Baum Squad" to help repair bikes and keep them on the road. United Cerebral Palsy of the North Bay "Cycle Without Limits" Program “Cycle Without Limits” Summer Bike/Swim Program is an instructional program that teachers children with disabilities how to ride conventional two-wheeled bicycles. The five-day camp is sponsored by UCP of the North Bay and Sonoma State University. The unique “Cycle Without Limits” bikes use air cylinders to keep the rider safely upright while allowing for a progressively greater lean. Community Bikes is a reuse and repair training program operated by LITE Initiatives. The staff teaches all interested parties how to maintain, repair and refurbish bikes and bike equipment. They also restore and sell donated bikes to the public. The majority of the bikes are donated by individuals, though many are picked up from agencies and businesses. After being carefully tested and refurbished, bikes are sold or donated to the needy depending on the preferences of the donor. All of the work to date has been funded by sales, volunteer work and donations of money and reusables, plus small grants |
