Brevets in Sonoma County
For many years, the Santa Rosa Cycling Club has offered a series of events known as brevets. With the retirement of Bob Redmond, the long standing Regional Brevet Administrator (RBA), SRCC will end its sponsorship of these events after the 2016 series. A new RBA for the Santa Rosa region has been approved by RUSA, and an abbreviated brevet series, including three 200K events and one 300K event, will be offered in 2017. These events will not be managed by SRCC but rather by the new RBA Ryan Thompson through this website: Santa Rosa Randonneurs.
What are brevets?
Brevets belong to a style of cycling known as “randonneuring” which originated in France over 100 years ago. Randonneuring refers to long-distance unsupported endurance cycling. These events have a time limit, but are non-competitive in nature and riders are expected to be self-sufficient.
Randonneurs USA (RUSA) is a national organization which oversees brevets in this country and acts as the interface with the parent organization Audax Club Parisien (ACP) in France.
