This ride gives us the opportunity to do some cooperative pace line riding on our way out of town, and on the return. In between those efforts we will face two rather stout climbs. The first is up Old Lawley Toll Road/Hwy 29 traveling up and over the ridge near Mt. St. Helena. The real dirty dog is the climb up Western Mine Road. The first .8 miles is on pavement, and the next 2.2 miles is on dirt that is pretty much unrelenting, and requires seated climbing only. It is steep, but doable on road or cross bikes that are tuned up and have strong tires. Be ready for a dogged effort.
