August 19-26, 2017
Led by Dave Smith and Rick Sawyer
This six-stage, eight-day tour will start in Yosemite on August 19 and finish in Sequoia National Park on August 26 after passing through Kings Canyon National Park. The tour is a modified and updated version of the very popular Three Parks Tours of 1998 and 2008 (translated: awesome!)
The route is not a loop so we will use only rental vans and Club trailers (no private vehicles), and move all vehicles to each successive camp so no shuttling is needed before or after the Tour. Tour stages are relatively rigorous (B/C capability at minimum is recommended) and campsite size limited. Based on these considerations and Club member feedback, we are planning for up to 26 riders, including the tour organizers and part-time sags. We have arranged for one or two SAG vehicles to serve riders each day as needed.
The cost has not been established yet, and is expected to be $500 - $550 depending on the number of riders. The cost will be established before the final payment is due. In addition, each rider will be responsible for paying one or two national park entry fees. Because of the limited number of riders on the Tour, each rider will be expected to provide a bit more logistical support during the Tour than might have been experienced on typical Club tours. As of mid-February, a mix of B, C and D riders have registered for the tour and the number of riders is sufficient such that the Tour will definitely launch.
